Foam recycler operates on roads in Paraná and Ceará
Recycling equipment is not just state-of-the-art technology, it also contributes to protecting the environment, since the amount of material brought in from deposits is reduced in this process. These recyclers, with their foamed asphalt device, are operating on highway BR376, along the Rodovia do Café (Coffee Route) in Paraná and on highway BR020 in Ceará. Paulifresa has told Ciber that it is consiedering the purchase of W 100F and W1000 milling machines during the first half of 2009.
On the Rodovia do Café, Paulifresa is using two machines in unison on a 12km stretch for the highway’s shoulders and for stabilization by adding cement and rock dust, on the stretch between the cities of Mauá da Serra and Califórnia. This highway connects the Port of Paranaguá to the north and northeast of the state of Paraná, thus connecting this state to São Paulo and Mato Grosso. In the state of Ceará, in Tauá, the highway connects four states, as well as Brasília, to Fortaleza. There the recyclers operate on two stretches totaling 40km on 2-2.4m working widths and reaching up to 50cm deep.
According to Paulifresa’s CEO, Júlio César Arantes, the company’s decision to purchase the equipment was made based on its unique qualities. One of the advantages mentioned by Mr. Arantes is its system with a microprocessor to control the addition of water, emulsion and also asphalt concrete (AC) used in the foamed asphalt recycling process. The process is simple: the foamed asphalt results from mixing hot asphalt at 170 ºC with a small percentage of water (2 to 3%). The physical state of the material changes from being super viscous, hard and sticky, becoming a foam. This significantly increases its volume, promoting melding and exceptional aggregate recovering.
One of the greatest advantages of the technology used in this milling machine according to Ciber’s Director-President, Walter Rauen, is the quickness of the operation, which allows the lane that is recycled with foamed asphalt to be compacted and opened immediately for traffic. Another positive point is the sustainability of the process, since it is non-polluting and does away with the exploitation of deposits and the need for installation room and material storage. The foamed asphalt can also be used to treat materials with relatively high humidity levels, as the binding agent may be added with no extra water.
