Wirtgen SP 15 and SP 25 slipform pavers
The SP 15 and SP 25 models represent an innovative generation of special-purpose machines for concrete paving which are distinctive not only for their high levels of economic efficiency and productivity but for numerous practical features as well.
SP 15: paving most diverse concrete profiles in top quality
The exceptionally broad scope of applications offered by the SP 15 comprises all offset applications with a paving width of up to 1.80 m and a paving thickness of up to 1.30 m, which is truly unique in this performance class. The main province of the SP 15 is the paving of concrete profiles in most diverse geometries and cross-sections: curbs, water gutters, canals, sewers, cable ducts and reinforced traffic barriers as well as special profiles. The SP 15 is also used in path construction: narrow paths, bicycle paths and minor rural roads complete the paver’s wide range of applications.
SP 25: matchless range of applications in concrete paving
The SP 25 impresses with a similarly multi-faceted range of applications: when used in inset mode, the SP 25 paves concrete slabs at widths ranging from 1.0 m to 3.50 m and paving thicknesses of up to 400 mm both in the open and in tunnel construction. In offset mode, the SP 25 produces safety barriers of up to 2.0 m in height, as well as curbs, canals, water gutters, shoulders and concrete slabs or bicycle paths of up to 2.50 m in width.
Just the right setup option for any application
The high levels of flexibility and versatility offered by both the SP 15 and SP 25 pavers are based on the countless configuration options for arranging the paving moulds and crawler tracks, which ensure equally high levels of machine utilization. The SP 15 is equipped with three track units (two at the front, one at the rear). The standard SP 25 is supplied with three track units (two at the rear, one at the front) but is optionally also available as a four-tracked model. The paving mould can be positioned on the left or right side of the machine within or outside the width of the machine frame. This feature allows both the concrete paver and the mixer truck to travel with the moving traffic without the need for any dangerous turning maneuvers of the mixer truck. A telescoping mount (mechanical or hydraulic) enables the mould to be shifted to the required horizontal position for profile paving: the mould of the SP 15 can be telescoped by up to 700 mm and that of the SP 25 by up to 1,100 mm to provide for those situations where the pavers cannot travel right next to the paving profile. Hydraulic height adjustment of the mould by up to 400 mm is offered as an optional feature for smaller moulds. It enables the mould to be positioned exactly as required by the paving situation with only little effort. Further height adjustment of the slipform pavers is effected via the track units.
Flexible concrete delivery regardless of the paving situation
In the standard slipform paver models, concrete feeding is effected via a belt conveyor. Customers can alternatively choose to integrate an optional folding belt conveyor or auger conveyor. The transport systems offer flexible hydraulic adjustment options in terms of incline and slewing angles via the paver’s control panel. They can additionally be moved in transverse and longitudinal direction to allow optimal adjustment of the concrete feeding system even in restricted job site conditions. The transport systems guarantee continuous concrete feeding to allow high daily production rates.
Great time saver: the quick-change mould mounting system
It often happens in the day-to-day paving work especially of the small slipform pavers that several paving profiles are needed in one working day or on one and the same job site. The new, optional quick-change mould mounting system from Wirtgen helps the machine user save time as it allows the mould to be changed right on the construction site, thus offering the flexibility required for each order he has accepted. Operation of the hydraulic quick-change mould mounting system is simple. The paver operator lowers the machine and then drives up to the mould to slide mounting hooks into guides on the mould. Hydraulic clamping tools then firmly secure the mould at the mere push of a button.
Perfect preparation of the base by means of a trimmer
Both machines of the new generation of concrete pavers are available with a trimmer unit. The trimmer is fitted with cutting tools arranged in a helical pattern and is used to prepare the base, ensuring uniform profile paving. The trimmer offers various adjustment options in height and slope and can be telescoped in horizontal position by means of hydraulic cylinders. It has a working depth of up to 150 mm. The trimmer unit can additionally be converted to different milling widths. It has a basic width of 600 mm and can be extended in increments to a maximum width of 1,600 mm.
Cuts fuel costs: intelligently performing engine with eco mode setting
Following activation of the eco mode, the paver’s intelligent PLC enables the engine to always run in the optimal performance and torque ranges required for the job at hand. In case of waiting times on the construction site, the eco mode automatically adjusts the engine speed to the optimal speed range, which results in significantly lower fuel consumption rates and reduces noise emissions for increased operator comfort and lower environmental impact.
The 4-cylinder diesel engine of the SP 15 performs at a rated power of 92 kW / 125 PS at 2,100 min-¹. The SP 25 houses a 6-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 118 kW / 160.4 PS. High-powered drive motors in the crawler tracks enable both paver models to achieve paving and travel speeds of 15 m/min and 35 m/min respectively, which are higher than those of the SP 150 and SP 250 models.
High-precision Wirtgen control systems for all job site requirements
Wirtgen control systems are synonymous with automatic control of the paving thickness right down to the very last millimetre and ensure adherence to the specified horizontal position and course of the concrete profile or slab. The standard levelling system includes a slope sensor, two level sensors and two steering sensors, with a 3D kit being available as an equipment option. A standardized 3D interface ensures that all commercial 3D systems can be used. The SP 25 offers additional optional level and steering sensors for driving through narrow radii. The versatile modular design of the Wirtgen levelling systems offers highest flexibility as it enables the slipform pavers to be operated both via stringline and via 3D control.
